A faster image viewer :D

My first linux app :D

It's for the Ubuntu Showdown Competition. I named it mivIt's an app for browsing photos quickly.

I have this idea because recently I traveled to Japan. My friends and I took a lot of photos. In total it's a few GB! I used my netbook to grab photos from my friends. I tried to open it with eog but it's extremely slow. It mainly because eog doesn't provide preview at all. So I need to wait for a while every time I clicked the "next" button... It's quite annoying... We can only see the image after it's fully loaded. But in my point of view, browsing photos, most of the time, just mean a quick peek. Usually I won't bother to zoom the image. Also new cameras normally produce very high resolution images. It spends quite a lot of time to load and display these huge images on this poor netbook...

So I developed this image viewer. I improved the browsing experience by smoothing the loading and viewing process. miv will preload a few images before and after the current image, so users do not need to wait for viewing the previous image or next image. Also a low resolution preview will be shown before the original version. If I just need a peek, the preview works fine for me and I will skip to next image. It can reduce the loads for some low-end machines, like my poor netbook :)

Hope people will like it as much as I do :)

If you are a ubuntu guy, you will probably know how to grab it. Here is the launchpad link: https://launchpad.net/miv
